THE most powerful political feeling that you find all over Wallasey is … what a waste of space is Wirral Council.
The antipathy is most keenly felt in New Brighton, where time and time again the council has failed the resort and watched it die a slow, lingering death.
Meanwhile, Wirral Council persists with the fantasy that Birkenhead can be a regional capital for the peninsula.
Doh! Let me tell the silly burghers of the Death Star (Town Hall) what our regional capital is … it’s Liverpool, dummies.
One man who expresses these thoughts poetically is Barman Burly from Hell’s Waiting Room. Here’s what he wrote recently …
“New Brighton once was a great place to be
New Brighton New Brighton, down by the sea
Once it had a wonderful tower
Now we’ve got Birkonians in power
Magnificent buildings, two lakes, two pools, two fairs
Now it’s apparent that that nobody cares
All extinguished by the developer’s pen
Good times coming? Please, tell me when
Millions in grants, just weren’t essential
New Brighton now is merely residential
Wirral Council, we know, are old fuddy-duddies
Expert at spending on feasibility studies
Hotels, conference centres, a new aqua dome
They never appeared in this place I call home
At Christmas, in Wallasey Village, strapped for cash
Only the lights on the zebra crossing did flash.
They take the money, but where does it go?
Surely we’re entitled to some kind of a show
Things will get better that’s what we're told
But when will someone be really bold?
Augment a plan and then see it through
Just be patient … there is a long queue
Will this council ever come to its senses?
I doubt very much, they’re getting expenses
They’ll argue about the plan of the seating
Of when and where they’ll have their next meeting
Four decades of talking and nothing is clear
As the end of another ten years draws near
The council appears like an old Elstree farce
Invest in New Brighton, oh yeah, my arse.”

I agree most definitely with the Burly man's sentiments.
