February 2008 Archives

Our ‘Carry on Slapping’ nation

February 22, 2008 5:49 PM

I CAME home from work last night feeling knackered.
And all the muscles at the base of my neck were knotted and taut.
I had eye strain and I could feel one of my headaches coming on.
Posh Boots arrived home at about the same time, feeling much the same – though I don’t think she had the knotted neck and back muscles.
So we decided to go straight into Tallulah’s wine bar in New Brighton and order a bottle of Rioja.

Why I wanna be … your Beloved Leader

AS I’ve been saying, our country is going to the dogs.
The education system is failing terribly, nearly half of the population are abusing alcohol and/or drugs regularly, our young women dress routinely in public like sex industry workers, and hardly anyone gives a damn about the elderly.
And despite all the millions of people ‘employed’ in non-jobs in the public sector, our public services are in an awful mess.
For most people, both family life and work life are stressful – and the balance between the two aspects of our existence is badly out of kilter.

I like to see the best in people, BUT …

I COULDN’T resist a snigger when I spotted this quote from a "Strategic Recruitment Manager" for Alton Towers theme park…
"Whether it’s a part-time, full-time, permanent or summer job you’re after, if you’re bright, enthusiastic, customer focused and like to get on with the job in hand, it’s highly likely there’s an opportunity here."
Hmmm. Recruitment professionals such the once responsible for that drivel do not live in the real world, it seems to me.
They inhabit an entirely imaginary society where people are "bright, enthusiastic and customer focused".
The reality in 21st century Britain is this: most people who work are very stressed and depressed by their jobs.
