‘Normal’ service is resumed

March 10, 2008 1:06 PM |

I KNOW, I know, I know…
I’ve not been posting as often as I used to – and certain types of people are missing my missives.
Certain types of intelligent people who read this blog regularly see it as a refreshing antidote to all the false imperatives of our sick and stressed society.
And they need me to speak up for them – these beloved people of the modern era; these people who know in their hearts that things are going badly wrong and that truth and beauty are being abandoned.

So I will, for their sake, continue to be a Sign of Contradiction to the mediocrity and iniquity of modern life.
For instance, I’ll be…
* Giving regular two-fingered salutes to the dreary, repressive corporatism of the State and its enforcers in local councils, the health service, the police etc.
* Pointing out the stupidity of celebrity culture; the corruption of art in advertising; the dumbing down of values through moronic PR campaigns; the infantile politics of Liverpool; and the slow, agonising death of British TV as a cultural force (something I predicted years ago in my Sam Brady column on ORACLE Teletext).
I’ll also be using this space to chronicle my own life of Magic Realism in lovely old New Brighton and Wallasey.
I’m fortunate to live in an area with a unique spirit that even 34 years of political misrule by the Wirral Council ‘Death Star’ has failed to kill.
Yes indeed, it’s time to shake things up.
So for the dissatisfied and the disaffected, I am going to be the voice of both sanity and irreverence – coming at you several times a week
This is my pledge to you all.
So fasten your seat belts and keep the faith!
* But first, from tomorrow … fun in Tallulah’s Bar, Hell’s Waiting Room and at those feisty Bards of New Brighton meetings.

My seatbelt's fastened tighter than a tightly fastened watch.

I'm keeping the faith like I'm keeping last night's chicken for my sandwiches.

Lets shake things up like they're pepper pots.

Looking forward to more regular posts, like a particularly fat lady looks forward to her cake.

Keep the spirit alive...

REGAN REPLIES: Glad to have you on board. It's you and me (and quite a few others) against the world, kid.

Welcome back Steve.

You're an angry(ish) guy. Only you could credibly postpone the revolution for a spot of alcoholic indulgence and a poetry reading!

You sound much better. Both you and New Brighton are on the up!

Dave

REGAN REPLIED: Dave, the cheque's in the post.

Glad to hear that your'e back and shouting. The last two weeks have not been the same while you have been absent. In fact given your headaches and overall health, I was getting quite worried!
We cannot have the "Voice of the people" getting writers block or bloggers rite as I like to call it!!
Take care mate.
REGAN REPLIES: Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's good to be back!

Robin Wallasey wrote...

Welcome back Steve, glad you are feeling better. I hope that you are not allergic to Posh boots? I know what you mean about dumbing down, I have been saying this for years. The government and the media have seen to this, what are they doing to this once great country? Have I got to resort to reading the 'red tops' to get any truth from a newspaper? Anyway, best wishes, Robin.

REGAN REPLIED: Things sure are bad but as long as good people such as yourself realise that then there is hope for improvement, Robin. There is always hope. All the best ...
